Obituary for Margaret Alice Putman (Price)

Margaret Alice Putman (Price)
Margaret Alice (Price) Putman, 92, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center in Brook, Indiana. Margaret was born to Dora C. Price and Sarah Elizabeth (Rhoades) Price on September 26, 1924 in Morocco, Indiana. She attended the Morocco Schools and quit school early to take care of her sick mother.

She met Edward James “Red” Putman and they were married on January 18, 1942, as he was going overseas to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. They were married for 72 years. To this union were born twin boys, John and Jim. Since Edward was overseas, he did not meet his sons until they were 3 ½ years old.

Margaret was a member of the Baptist Church, but since it no longer existed, she was affiliated with the First Christian Church of Rensselaer.

Margaret was a homemaker and worked at several places in Rensselaer, including ten years at Saint Joseph’s College. She enjoyed cooking, playing the organ and piano by ear, and crocheting. She crocheted beautiful baby afghans and gave them as gifts. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and was pleased with their successes. She was always thankful for the help she and Edward received from her family.

Margaret is survived by her loving family: one son, John E. (Helen) Putman; four grandchildren: Christina (Jeff) Jordan, Matthew (Lindsey) Putman, Nancy (Marty) Hall, and Michael (Heather) Putman; 11 great-grandchildren: Aidan, Ryley, and Keegan Lynch, Madelyn and Maxwell Putman, Nikki (Tony) Luttrell, Brandon (Kim) House, Skyler Shamp, Marty Hall, Jr., Harrison and Sadie Jordan; and three great-great-grandchildren: Jaiden, Shelby, and Tyler Luttrell; and one sister-in-law, Louise (Willard) Wilken.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband Edward; son James E. Putman; and brother John Price.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 12 p.m. until time of funeral at 2 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Rev. Elizabeth Hartmann officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Contributions in Margaret’s memory may be made to the charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
