Obituary for Sarah Ann "Sally" Lilley (Rater)
Sarah Ann “Sally” Lilley, 92, of Wheatfield, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 at Oak Grove Christian Retirement Center in DeMotte. She was born in Pulaski County, Indiana on July 15, 1925, the daughter of James “Luke” Rater and Anna May (Clark) Rater. A lifetime area resident, she graduated from North Judson High School with the class of 1944.
On July 15, 1947 she married Clarence “Nip” Lilley. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1988. Sally was a homemaker. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in DeMotte where she served on the Altar Guild for a number of years. She was a member of the Ladies of Faith and was in charge of the Seniors Birthday Club at the church. She was also a member of the Kniman Homemakers Club and was an election poll worker.
Sally was preceded in death by her eleven siblings: John Rater, LeRoy Rater, Sr., Ralph Rater, Archie Rater, Luther Rater, Mollie Rose, Bertha Stotler, Rosanna Cooper, Ruth Dommer, Mary Stotler, and “baby girl” Rater.
Sally was dearly loved and will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, by the Dase family, and by her church family.
Visitation will be Monday, May 14, 2018 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in DeMotte. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in DeMotte with Pastor Jared Raebel officiating. Interment will follow at DeMotte Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Altar Guild or VNA Hospice in Valparaiso. Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer is handling the arrangements.
