Obituary for Vena L. Vinson (Stone)

Vena L. Vinson, 95, of Rensselaer, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, 2013 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center. She was born in Dutch Town, IN Sept. 23, 1918, daughter of the late William Webster Stone and Cloetta (Boger) Stone. She graduated from high school in Winslow, IN. On Oct. 19, 1935, in Mt. Carmel, IN, she married Arthur M. Vinson. He preceded her in death in 1991.

Vena was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and babysitting. She was also an avid golfer and an excellent swimmer. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Vena is survived by her loving family: children: Martha L. Brandenburg (James) of Rensselaer, Arthur N. Vinson (Susan) of Terre Haute and N. Ruth Hershberger (friend: Charles Wood) of Rensselaer; nine grandchildren: Kathleen “Kate” Hayworth (Dain), Kathryn “Kathy” Cook (Chris), Robin Cahillane, Steven Sampson (Katherine), Suzanne McClure (Mike), Pam Chappo (friend: Denny), Tracy Gelsosomo (Tom), Vinson R. Hershberger (Rachelle), Laura Lynn Wilcoxson (Yancy); 16 great grandchildren: Ashley Rae Hopp (Joe), Justin D. Hayworth (Olivia), Rebecca Arlington (Alan), Katie Cahillane (fiancé: John), Kellie Cahillane, Jamie Tucker (Derek), Jacqueline Sampson, Steven Sampson, Hannah Wilcoxson, Sarah Wilcoxson, Elizabeth Wilcoxson, Asa Hershberger, Stephen Hershberger, Delaney Hershberger, Nathaniel Hershberger, Ryan Chappo (Emily), Scott Chappo and Taylor Gelsosomo; and three great-great grandchildren: Hadley Rae Hopp, Trevor Arlington and Mason Arlington; one sister, Eulah Hawkins of Petersburg, IN; two brothers, Harold Dee Stone of Glasford, IL and Lester Stone of St. Louis, MO; and one brother-in-law, John E. Vinson of Hazleton, IN.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, William Webster Stone and Cloetta Stone, her husband, Arthur M. Vinson, four brothers: Carl Stone, Frank Stone, Bob Stone and Grester Stone; and five sisters: Levon “Sis” Schultz, Mary Selby, Eileen Shafer, Beulah Hamm and Gracie Imodel Stone.

Friends may call on Friday, December 20, 2013 from noon until 2 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
