Obituary for Virginia Mae Harrington (Bozell)

Virginia Mae Harrington, 89, of Rensselaer, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center in Brook. She was born in Fair Oaks on February 1, 1926, daughter of the late Everett Bozell and Jessie Blanch (Rowan) Bozell. She was a lifelong area resident.

Virginia graduated from Fair Oaks High School and went on to attend nursing school at St. Mary’s Mercy Hospital in Gary. Just two weeks shy from graduating, she left school to marry the love of her life, Vernon Lloyd Harrington when he returned from serving in Okinawa during WWII. Virginia and Vernon were married in Rensselaer on July 3, 1946. Vernon preceded her in death on October 31, 2012. Virginia was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mt. Ayr United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and the VFW. She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed watching TV, doing word searches, and visiting with family and friends.

Virginia is survived by one son, Vernon Michael Harrington; one daughter, Pamella Ellen (James) VanWienen; two grandchildren, Scott (Karla) VanWienen and Melissa Lynn (Josh) Watts; and four grandchildren: Samantha, Dylan, Kayne and Kavyn; and one brother-in-law, Doyle Harrington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vernon; one granddaughter, Jennifer; and one brother, David.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 3-7 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. An Eastern Star service will be held at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Morros officiating.
