Obituary for Dorothy E. Nagel (Blaze)

Dorothy E. Nagel, 92, of Rensselaer, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016 at AlternaCare – Franciscan Health Rensselaer. She was born in Rensselaer on December 6, 1923, daughter of the late George Sanford Blaze and Ona (Ricks) Blaze. She graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1942, and was a lifelong area resident. On February 28, 1946, she married her husband of 62 years, Paul E. Nagel. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2008.

Dorothy, affectionately known as “Mamaw” by her eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority. She enjoyed sewing and playing cards, and was a member of several bridge and euchre clubs. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables. She was known for her delicious fudge and date pudding. She had a dry sense of humor and she loved a good joke.

Dorothy is survived by her loving family: four children: Georgia McKim (husband: Jerry), Pamela Canty (husband: Brian), Thomas P. Nagel (fiancé: Brenda Mattocks), and Timothy G. Nagel; eleven grandchildren: Sean McKim (wife: Tiffany), Paul McKim (wife: Lovella), Anne Soultz (husband: Jeremy), Andrew McKim (wife: Natasha), Jordan Canty, Austin Canty, Ryan Nagel, Jenna Nagel, Magan Maldonado, Brenden Nagel, and Michael Nagel; ten great-grandchildren: Alayna, Colin, Grace, Isaac, Adam, Jegan, Benjamin, Micah, Aryonnah, Elyjah, and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband Paul; three sisters: Isabelle, Mildred, and Georgia Ann; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 3-7 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A Rosary Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. with Father Gilbert officiating. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Don Davison officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
