Obituary for Woodrow "Woody" Hammel

We mourn the passing of Woodrow "Woody" Hammel, 69, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend on October 30, 2016. Woody died peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Woody grew up in Morocco, IN, the younger son of Glenwood Hammel and Virginia (Rosenplanter) Hammel both preceding him in death. He was married for over 46 years to his childhood sweetheart, Jill (Anderson) Hammel, who survives. Woody also shared his life with their three daughters and six grandchildren: Courtney Hammel of North Carolina; Kristen (Andy) Grzych, Dylan, Drew, and Tanner of Schererville and Kacey (Johnny) Crncic, Ivanna, Joe, and Grant of North Carolina. He is also survived by his brother Stewart (Joyce) Hammel, and loving aunt (Phyllis Brees), in-laws (Jack Anderson and Jena Reninger), many nieces and nephews.

Woody spent the majority of his working years in trucking operations and logistics, retiring from G & F Trucking. He will be remembered for his love of all sports, sarcastic humor, and dedication to family.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at Pruzin-Little Funeral Home of Crown Point located at 811 E. Franciscan Dr. Crown Point, IN. A brief celebration of life service will begin at 6:00pm. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Calumet Area, 600 Superior Ave., Munster, IN.
