Obituary for Arthur W. "Art" Hamer II
Arthur W. Hamer II, “Art”, age 70, of East Chicago, Indiana, formerly of Rensselaer, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on January 4, 1948, in Rensselaer, to Arthur W. Hamer I and June (Cunningham) Hamer.
Art graduated from Rensselaer High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a decorated hero who led a fire brigade in protecting an ammunition bunker from enemy fire. He enjoyed collecting antique oil lamps and watching John Wayne movies.
He is survived by two children, Rebecca “Cleo” (Jamie) Hamer and David Hamer (Charli Hicks); two brothers, Wayne (Nora) Hamer and Dick (Shirley) Hamer; two sisters, Rhonda (Mike) Murphy and Joy Warran; and four grandchildren: Izzabelle, Kayleb, Ethan, and Grayson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and June Hamer; brother Fred Hamer; and son John Hamer.
