Obituary for Billy "Bill" Manns

Billy “Bill” Manns, age 88, of rural Rensselaer, passed away at George Ade Healthcare Center on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. He was born in McGoffin County, Kentucky on April 25, 1927, son of the late Bernie and Celia (Howard) Manns. He moved to Jasper County from Kentucky in 1939.
On August 11, 1945, in Rensselaer, Bill married his wife of 69 years, Thelma Manns. She preceded him in death on January 8, 2015. Bill was a lifetime area farmer and livestock dealer for many years. He also served for over 12 years as a Jasper County Councilman. Bill attended the Goodway Baptist Church.
Bill is survived by his loving family: daughter Connie Jo (Denny) Raska and son William T. (Pam) Manns, both of Rensselaer; five grandchildren: Ted K. Oliver of Miami, FL, Scott (Erica) Manns, Derick (Amanda) Manns, Carla (Heath) Arndt, all of Rensselaer and Misty (Jerri) Cady of West Des Moines, IA; twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are a brother Earnest “Dick” (Loletta) Manns of Port Isobelle, Texas and two sisters Maudlene (Raymond) Campbell of San Pierre and Maxine (Forest) Manns of Rensselaer. Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, brothers: Bud, Carl and James; and sister: Maxine.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 19, 2015, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Services will be Monday, July 20, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Pastor James Rowe officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
