Obituary for Bonnie J. DePew
Bonnie Jean DePew, 86, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2023. She was born in Cadillac, Michigan on February 9, 1936 to Howard L. DePew and Edith (Chesebro) DePew.
She was a 1954 graduate of Mesick, Michigan Consolidated Schools, and a graduate of Triton College in River Grove, Illinois with a 2-year degree in nursing. She worked as a nurse at Suburban Hospital, a Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Hinsdale, Illinois for 12 years before moving to Rensselaer 45 years ago. Bonnie worked as an LPN at Jasper County Hospital for 25 years until her retirement in 1998.
She was a member of Victorious Life Assembly of God and attended The Bridge Assembly of God. She loved to cook and she enjoyed gardening. She was a big Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls fan.
Bonnie is survived by one nephew, Ricky DePew; one sister-in-law, Elsie DePew; and four great-nieces: Steffanie DePew, Valerie McBain, Bonnie Jean DePew and Anna Marie Kenyon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Richard DePew and Edward DePew; two sisters, Helen Weiser and Maggie Ellerton; three nieces; and two nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral at noon at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Pastor Doug Harris officiating. A Nightingale Nurse’s Tribute service will be held at the funeral home just prior to the funeral. All nurses who worked with Bonnie are welcome to participate. Burial will be at a later date at Weston Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bonnie’s memory may be made to Franciscan Hospice Care or the Jasper County Animal Shelter (see links below).
