Obituary for Clyde Williams Jr.
Clyde Williams, Jr., 78, of Rensselaer, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 with his daughters at his side. He was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on November 6, 1941 to the late Clyde Williams, Sr. and Beulah Ellen (Pace) Williams. He attended Ponca Military Academy as a teenager where he played football and was a 1958 graduate of McAlester High School in McAlester, OK. He graduated from San Jose City College in 1963.
Clyde served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1960. He worked at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA, and Mercy and Montefiore Hospitals in Pittsburgh, PA. Over the years, he also drove a semi, worked in a barrel factory, attended beauty school, and drove an ambulance in Las Vegas, NV, San Jose and Hollister, CA. He met the love of his life, Linda Karson, while working at North Las Vegas Hospital. They were married in Reno, Nevada on December 17, 1970 and toured the United States on a Harley for the next decade.
Clyde and his wife moved to Rensselaer in 1980. He worked as a respiratory therapist and homecare and hospice worker for Jasper County Hospital. He was a former member of the Rensselaer American Legion Post #29 and Rensselaer Eagles Lodge #2548. He was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and fishing. He was a huge Star Trek fan and loved being outdoors, long car rides, exploring abandoned buildings, wood working, and playing chess. He most cherished time spent with his family and his pride and joy, his grandson Eli. He will be remembered by those that knew him for his strength, and endless encouragement of kindness and the pursuit of knowledge.
He is survived by his two daughters, Jessica Wachowiak (Timothy) and Lucia Williams (Bryant “Bubba” Alson); one grandson, Eli Clyde Antcliff, and one on the way, Bryson Scott; one granddaughter, Klohe Wachowiak; one sister, Elizabeth Miller; one sister-in-law, Martha Omilian (Richard); one brother-in-law, Pete Karson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Karson-Williams; parents, Clyde, Sr. and Beulah Williams; one brother, William “Willie” Williams; his mother-in-law, Luzia Karson; and one niece, Margaret “Maggie” Wardle.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 12-2 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Pastor Wayne Williams officiating.
