Obituary for Daniel Gene "Dan" Hammond

Daniel Gene Hammond, 66, of Rensselaer, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, November 27, 2021. He was born in Rensselaer on April 15, 1955, the son of Raymond D. Hammond and Mary Ellen (Smith) DeVelde.

He graduated from Rensselaer Central High School with the Class of 1974. He went on to study automotive body repair at Ivy Tech where he earned his vocational degree. His marriage was to Susan Marcel Longstreth in 1977.

Dan was a welder at Talbert Manufacturing for 24 years. He also worked for Jim Zacher on his farm. He loved building intricate models of ships and military planes by hand. He also enjoyed camping and taking rides down south with his wife.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sue Hammond; one daughter, Nicole Hammond; one granddaughter, Ashlynn Sell; four siblings: Steve Hammond, Jim DeVelde, Jeff (Kelli) Hammond and Sandy Hammond; and one sister-in-law, Sara Hammond.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David Hammond; and one sister-in-law, Sue Hammond.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 12 p.m. with Pastor Randall Gann officiating. Burial will follow at Prater Cemetery.
