Obituary for David Raymond "Dave" Duley

David Raymond Duley, 90, of Rensselaer, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center. He was born April 23, 1931 in Harrison County, Indiana (near Corydon), to Roy and Goldia (Rhodes) Duley. In March, 1959 he married Shirleyann Scholz of Medaryville at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Rensselaer.

Dave graduated from Rensselaer High School with the Class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army as Sgt. First Class and Forward Observer with the 5th Regimental Combat Team during the Korean War from 1952-1954. During July 14-15, 1953 Dave was a survivor of the worst massacre of Americans in the Korean War, serving with the 555th Field Artillery Battalion.

For many years he was the produce department manager at the local A&P store, as well as other grocery stores in Rensselaer. Upon retirement, he enjoyed many winters in Florida. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirleyann Duley, and his two children, Sonia Duley and Darin Duley, all of Rensselaer. Also surviving are 7 birth grandchildren: Kyle Duley, Katelyn Liptak, Holly Ammann, Jason Duley, Adam Waibel, Stefanie Baer and Aleah Scheurich; and 3 great-grandchildren. He also answered to the name of Grandpa to many adopted grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Rex Duley and Ward Duley; his parents, Roy and Goldia Duley; three brothers: Russell Duley, Arvil Duley and Mack Duley; and two sisters, Gladys Tow and infant sister Esther Ruth Duley.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 1 p.m. with Paul Tow officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Weston Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Dave’s memory to George Ade Memorial Health Care Center.
