Obituary for Dede Kay Duley (Guth)

Dede Kay Duley, 80, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at The Gardens at Park Pointe in Morris, IL after living a life full of giving love.

She was born on August 4, 1941 to Helen Mae (Greene) and Richard Lee Guth in Clinton, IN. In her early childhood and after WWII, her family moved to Lafayette, IN. Later, her family moved to Rensselaer, IN, where she met Mack Duley. She graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1959 and married Mack in 1960.

Dede and Mack raised their two daughters, Carol Ann and Mary Kay, in Rensselaer. Dede was a mother who was dedicated to her girls, her husband, her family, and her faith participating in their church and making memories with family and friends. Dede and Mack later moved to Lafayette, IN, in the 1990s where they built a home together that housed many holiday gatherings. Dede also pursued a career in banking and rose through the ranks until her retirement.

Dede was known for her kindness, generosity, and gentleness of spirit. She became a grandmother and great-grandmother and embraced those roles with great pride and enthusiasm. Dede volunteered her time through her church taking joy in helping and comforting others in need. She loved journaling and reading her Bible. She shared family memories with fondness. Dede had a laugh that was infectious and gave heartfelt hugs.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann (Craig) Scheurich and Mary Kay (Mike) Hayworth; five grandchildren: Mary Beth Verdone, Matthew (Jessi) Scheurich, Megan, Molly and Mitchell Hayworth; three great-grandchildren: Michael Verdone, Matthew and Annie Scheurich; two sisters, Diana Prescher and Donna (David) Baer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mack Duley; brother Frederick Guth; and her parents, Helen and Richard Guth.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home, 403 N. Front St., Rensselaer with the funeral service immediately following at 12 p.m. with Pastor Eric Schneider officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rensselaer.
