Doris Mae (Schleman) Maves, 85, of Francesville, formerly of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away May 30, 2014.
Doris was born January 23, 1929 in Rensselaer. She was the daughter of Paul and Royal (Rutledge) Schleman who are both deceased.
She graduated from Fair Oaks High School in 1947. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She previously lived in DeMotte, Rensselaer, and Inverness, Florida before moving back north to Francesville. She was an avid card player, enjoyed putting together puzzles, fishing, and watching her great-granddaughter’s antics. After high school, she worked as a telephone operator. She retired from Sealy Spring Corp. in Rensselaer, Indiana.
She married Carl James Leichty in 1949. They were divorced in 1968. She married Arthur O. Maves in 1978. He passed away in 1990.
Survivors include three daughters: Linda (Mike Churchich) Leichty of Hayward, CA; Regina Warfel of Rensselaer, Cindy (Robert) Swartz of Lake in the Hills, IL, two grandchildren: Nicholas Warfel of Fort Wayne, IN and Jessica (Dan) York of Orlando, FL, and her great-granddaughter Sophie York of Orlando, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother Carl “Buzz” (Naomi) Schleman.
Visitation will be Saturday June 28th from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. (CDT) with Memorial Service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer, Pastor John Hostetter officiating.
