Obituary for Doris Evelyn Swartz (Hayslip)

Doris Evelyn Swartz, 95, of Morocco, Indiana passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East surrounded by her family. She was born in Pittwood, Illinois on August 21, 1926, the daughter of Harry Hayslip and Esther Marie (Claussen) Hayslip. She was a 1943 graduate of Morocco High School.

On October 24, 1945, she married Roy Clyde Swartz in Joliet, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2011.

Doris was a homemaker who was devoted to her family. She was a prayerful woman who loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Faith Church in Dyer, Indiana.

She is survived by her three daughters: Janice Bishop of Brook, IN, Cheryl (Erwin “Jay”) Honsa of Dyer, IN, and Michelle “Shelley” (Steve) Miller of Delphi, IN; 6 grandchildren: John (Sharon) Fitzgerald of Wheatfield, IN, Matthew (Yaeko) Bishop of Virginia Beach, VA, Christopher (Stephanie) Miller of Remington, IN, Rachel (Thomas) Lynch of Rossville, IN, Courtney (Chris) Bird of Lebanon, IN, and Kalynne (Isaiah) Jones of Kirklin, IN; and 18 great-grandchildren: Joshua and Melissa Fitzgerald, Ethan and Abigail Bishop, Andrew, Aleah and Alexander Miller, Mikayla, Dylan and Owen Lynch, Mykinsie and Jackson Sloan, Chloe, Lillie and Leo Bird, Malachi, Ezrah and Ezekiel Jones. Also surviving are one sister-in-law, Carolyn Dacunto of North Carolina; two nephews, Howard (Pat) Severs and David (Terry) Severs, both of Morocco, IN; two nieces, Lynn (Robert) Stone of Roselawn, IN and Pat Jones of Goodland, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roy; three brothers: Francis Hayslip, Merle Hayslip, and Everette “Ed” Hayslip; two sisters, Betty Severs and infant sister Elsie May Hayslip; two grandsons, Jason Miller and Adam Miller; and one great-granddaughter, Hope Evelyn Lynch.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. (Central Time) at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco. Funeral services will be held at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 12 p.m. (Central Time) with Pastor Andy Nearpass officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens of Rensselaer. Contributions in Doris’ memory may be made to Samaritan’s Purse. Steinke Funeral Home is honored to be handling the arrangements.
