Obituary for Dorothy Mae "Dot" Molson (Fountain)

Dorothy Mae “Dot” Molson, 97, of rural Morocco, IN passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Franciscan Health Rensselaer. She was born in Kankakee County, IL on May 16, 1925, the daughter of Fred “Fritz” and Eva (Eggen) Fountain. She was a graduate of St. Anne High School. On March 13, 1948 she married Albert Molson, Jr. They were married for 55 years. He preceded her in death in 2003.

Dot was a feminist and her heroes were Amelia Earhart and Susan B. Anthony. Dot was also an accomplished pilot herself, and she was hired as a farm hand by her father-in-law, who withstood the ridicule from the community for hiring a woman. He knew she could work twice as hard and she was twice as smart as any man he could have found. She passed those traits down to her children and grandchildren.

Dot loved to farm. She enjoyed driving the tractor and combine and caring for the cattle. She was still farming as recently as two years ago at the age of 95! In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, waterskiing at Bass Lake and dancing at the Lazy-L in Enos.

She served on the North Newton School Board for over 30 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Gale (Mark) Christenson of Lake Village; one son-in-law, Ron Christenson of Morocco; seven grandchildren: Adrienne (James) Detwiler, Sara (Marc) Lavignette, Claire (James) Pitts, Natalie (Grant) Wedding, Jessica Christenson, Lara Christenson-(Ed Gable) and Joshua Christenson; and three great-grandchildren: Rowan, Eva and Abigail Lavignette.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Albert; one daughter, Dawn Christenson; and one sister, Betty Robinson.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral at 11 a.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Purdue Center for Cancer Research at www.purdue.edu/cancer-research.
