Faye Lavina (Fleming) McCurtain passed away on February 10, 2023 at the Rensselaer Care Center in Rensselaer, IN. Faye was born on May 17, 1920 in Newton County to Anna (Lyons) and Charles Fleming. She attended Aix Elementary and graduated from Fair Oaks High School in 1938. Faye married Lewis A. (Bud) McCurtain on July 14, 1940. They built their first home in Rensselaer, but later moved to a farm near Remington. Faye and Bud celebrated more than 63 years together.

Faye loved spending time with family, friends and neighbors. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi philanthropic sorority. She always looked forward to Fountain Park Chautauqua where she would complete several paintings each year. Faye and Bud enjoyed many fun nights of playing euchre in their card club which endured for many decades. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and its Fidelis Sunday School group. In her later years, she was lovingly supported by the Remington United Methodist Church. She appreciated friendships established through all of these groups for her entire life.

Faye was a good seamstress, a great cook and an excellent baker. She also helped maintain the family’s home, garden and farm. She was always finding ways to put her talents to good use. Faye also worked in retail at Schultz’s Five & Dime as a young adult, and later at King’s Clothier men’s shop. She loved traveling and appreciated simple rides around the nearby countryside. More adventurous favorite destinations included Turkey Run State Park in Indiana, Lake Leelanau in Michigan and Holiday Campground in Seminole, Florida.
