Obituary for Franell G. "Fran" Pfledderer (Kresler)

Franell G. “Fran” Pfledderer, 77, a lifelong resident of Rensselaer, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, surrounded by her family. She was born in Rensselaer on Nov. 1, 1940, the daughter of Frank “Hank” Kresler and Dorothy “Dot” (Heinz) Kresler.

Fran graduated from Rensselaer High School with the Class of 1958. She was very active in high school where she was a cheerleader and the Homecoming Queen. She was also Jasper County Fair Queen second runner-up. Fran married her high school sweetheart, Keith Pfledderer, on Sept. 10, 1960.

After high school, she studied business at Ball State University. She was a former Deputy Clerk at the Jasper Co. Clerk’s Office and former secretary for the superintendent of the Rensselaer School Corp. She was a florist for Brand’s Flowers for many years.

Fran had a green thumb. She loved growing flowers in her garden and working in her yard. She was superintendent of the 4-H floral department at the Jasper County Fair for several years.

She loved antiquing with family and friends. She enjoyed picking so much that her CB handle was “Antique Lady.” She often joked that she should open up her own antique store. She would call it “Fran-tiques.”

Fran was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan. She was a season ticket holder for over 60 years. Her favorite player was “Sweetness” Walter Payton. Some of her favorite memories were when she was a lifeguard at La Rue Memorial Pool and got to meet several of the players when the Bears held their training camps at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer.

Fran was an avid supporter of St. Joseph’s College and was a St. Joseph’s College Fellow. She was a member of Tri Kappa, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Prairie Arts Council, and a former member of the Jaycees. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Fran cherished spending time with her family. She loved attending her kid’s and grandkid’s sporting events; swimming in her pool; snowmobiling up in Cadillac, Michigan; and, like her mother, Dot, she enjoyed golfing at Curtis Creek Country Club.

Fran never met a stranger. She always had a smile on her face and she had a wonderful sense of humor. She liked keeping everyone on their toes. She was a special lady and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Fran is survived by her loving family: husband Keith Pfledderer of Rensselaer; three children: Kara (Greg) Fishburn of Rensselaer, Kyle Pfledderer of Rensselaer, and Kori (Lee) Thomas of Newnan, GA; and four grandchildren: Christopher (Lauren) Pfledderer, Hannah Pfledderer, Cannon Thomas and Brooklyn Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends will be received at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. (CDT), and again on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 10-10:30 a.m., also at Steinke Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church of Rensselaer on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Father Rick Nagel officiating. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery, Rensselaer.
