Gery Ross Gilbert, 70, a lifelong resident of Rensselaer, IN passed away Tuesday evening, September 20, 2022 at Vibra Hospital in Crown Point. He was born on September 25, 1951, the son of the late Joseph E. Gilbert and Margaret A. “Peggy” (Powers) Gilbert. He was a graduate of Rensselaer Central High School.
Gery met the love of his life, Cathy Goff, in 1986. They were married at Gery’s brother Joe’s home in Warrenton, MO on September 26, 1997. Gery ran his own janitorial services business from 1972-2000. He cleaned many local offices, including those at Sealy Springs, Chief Industries and the Town Mall. He was a member of the Kniman United Methodist Church. Gery had a passion for playing the drums and was a drummer for 45 years. He played with numerous bands, including Ronnie McDowell, and traveled the country from South Dakota to Florida. He also loved his dogs, including his current dog “Sugar”.
Gery is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Gilbert of Rensselaer; one brother, George (Judy) Gilbert of Kirkland, IN; two nephews, Matthew and Michael; and one niece, Elaine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe Gilbert.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral at 12 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Pastor David Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Fair Oaks Cemetery.
