Obituary for Grace Louise Kennedy (Purdy)

Grace Louise Kennedy, 93, of Morocco, Indiana passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Rensselaer Care Center. She was born October 11, 1924, to Roy and Laura (Winslow) Purdy in Beaverville Township, Illinois. She attended the Iroquois County, Illinois Public Schools.

She married John C. Kennedy on July 12, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1997. To this union four children were born: Linda Gaffield (Patton) (companion: Meryle Patzschke) of Rensselaer, John C. Kennedy, Jr. (wife: Rita) of Augusta, Georgia, Sam R. Kennedy (wife: Betty) and Charles T. Kennedy (wife: Mary), all of Morocco, Indiana.

Also surviving are: one sister, Marjorie Anderson of Watseka, Illinois; 8 grandchildren: Coy Patton (wife: Kama) of Lafayette, Indiana, Cindy (Struble) Montemayer (husband: Tom) of Morocco, Indiana, Richard W. Kennedy (wife: Teresa) of North Augusta, South Carolina, Catherine A. Kennedy of Augusta, Georgia, Sam Kennedy, Jr. (wife: Renita) of Lemont, Illinois, Sherry Davis (husband: Ivan) of Morocco, Indiana, Joe Kennedy of Auburn, Indiana, and Justin Brown (wife: Kayla) of Indianapolis, Indiana; 18 great-grandchildren: Zack Patton of Bloomington, Indiana, Nate Patton of Remington, Indiana, step-great-grandson Cole Young of Wolcott, Indiana, Steven and Vanessa Struble of Rensselaer, Indiana, Shannon Delk (husband: Matt), Brantley Delk, and Lucas Delk, all of North Augusta, South Carolina, Lexia Kennedy of Lemont, Illinois, Danielle Gaddis (husband: Tim) of Lafayette, Indiana, Shamyl Richardson (husband: Darrel), Ivan Davis, Jr., and Gordon Davis, all of Indianapolis, Indiana, Maddie Webb of Scott, Missouri, and Kinzie, Jeffery, Grace, and Thomas Brown, all of Indianapolis, Indiana; and 7 great-great grandchildren: Addie Atkinson, Camille and Landon Gaddis, Daysha, Nana, Gabby, and Taylor Richardson. Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Roy and Laura Purdy; three brothers: Alfred Purdy, Robert Purdy, and Howard Purdy; and one sister, Doris Graves.

Grace was a member of The River Church Assembly of God in Morocco. She was also a member of the Bunco Club and the McClellan Township Home Ec. Club. She enjoyed helping at the Faith Harvest Food Pantry passing out cookies and candy. Grace loved the outdoors; flowers, gardening, and watching birds. She helped her husband with farming and raising livestock on the family farm east of Morocco. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Visitation will be Friday, September 21, 2018 from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Morocco Community Center, 409 S. Polk St., Morocco. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at The River Church, 503 E. Beaver St., Morocco. Pastor John Fuller officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery north of Morocco.
