Obituary for Henry L. "Hank" Strickler

Henry L. “Hank” Strickler, 75, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday evening, August 12, 2021. He was born January 6, 1946, in Muskegon, Michigan, son of the late Edgar and Virginia Strickler.

Hank served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1967. On September 7, 1968, he married Joan Carijat in Glendale, California. He worked as a chief special agent for the Santa Fe Railroad for 28 years, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed gardening, camping, reading, history, animals, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan Strickler of Rensselaer; three daughters: Jennifer (Jeff) Renstrom of Crete, Illinois, Susan Strickler of Gladstone, Missouri, and Sarah Strickler (Stan Haley) of Fowler, Indiana; one son, Douglas Strickler; 13 grandchildren: Jack (Natalie) Renstrom, Ethan (Adriana) Renstrom, Katelyn (Oscar) Renstrom, Sydney Strickler, Gage Strickler, Bryce (Allison) Strickler, Audrianna Strickler, Hank Strickler, Levi Strickler, Autumn Strickler, Madelyne Kennedy, Isobel Kennedy, and Gabriel Haley; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Hank will be remembered as a man who cared deeply about his family. He had great integrity and a strong work ethic. He put 100% into everything he did. He was a fair man who took the time to listen to other points of views and changed his opinions as he contemplated alternative views.

Hank loved animals and took great care while rehabilitating birds, squirrels, raccoons, and any other creatures that needed help. His heart was enormous and generous. His love of books and history was never ending. He enjoyed teaching others about history throughout the world and he made it interesting and exciting. But above all, Hank was about FAMILY.
