Obituary for Jerry Wayne Killmer
Jerry Wayne Killmer, 75, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away Monday, July 17, 2023 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. He was born in Rensselaer on October 21, 1947 to Jack Killmer, Jr. and Emma Leona (Laffoon) Killmer. He was a 1966 graduate of Rensselaer High School. On January 22, 1972, in Rensselaer, he married Darlene S. Denton.
When he was younger, Jerry enjoyed bowling, playing cards, hunting mushrooms, and fishing with friends. He was an animal lover. He especially enjoyed birds, and his constant companion, his cat “Diver.”
Most of all, Jerry cherished spending time with his family, and his precious grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching them how to swim and ride bikes, and taking them to the park.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Killmer; three daughters: Melissa Schultz, Alesia Dobson, and Raquel (Bart) Case; nine grandchildren: Trevor Bailey, Cody (Kaitlyn) Bailey, Ashton Schultz, Allie Schultz, Matthew (Brittney) Dobson, Cameron (Kaitlyn) Dobson, Emily Dobson, Justin Hanna (fiancé: Alexis), and Jordan Hanna (Kaylie); and two great-grandchildren, Amelia Bailey and Theodore Dobson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jackie Walker; two nephews, Johnny Eisle and Tony Eisle; one niece, Debbie Eisle; and grandparents Jack, Sr. and Sarah Killmer.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 3-7 p.m. CST at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer.
