Obituary for John Edgar Davis Sr.

John Edgar Davis, Sr., 86, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away at his home on Sunday, October 31, 2021. He was born September 18, 1935, in Zanesville, Ohio, the son of Charles Emmett and Jessie Ann (Patterson) Davis.

John served in the Army National Guard. On August 6, 1994, he married Judi Kay Davis. He was a heavy equipment operator for Local #150 at Bethlehem Steel. He was a Master Mason and former Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge in Chesterton, Indiana. He was also a Shriner and a member of Scottish Rite. He loved to dance with his wife and they enjoyed entering dance competitions. He was a big kid at heart who enjoyed his model railroad, playing cards and eating popcorn. He had a green thumb and loved to garden and grow beautiful roses. John most enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Judi Davis of Rensselaer; five children: Toni Lee (Paul) Beard and Teresa Meeks, both of Ohio, Kenneth (Judy) Davis of Florida, John Davis, Jr. of Wheatfield, and Charlotte Carr (Roger Burman) of Rensselaer; three step-children: Craig (Thresa) Brown of Colorado, Vince (Andi) Brown of Fair Oaks and Beth (Michael) Williamson of Remington; one brother, Charles Davis of Ohio; and 14 grandchildren: Johnda, Clara, Samantha, Risha, Relisa, Joshua, Kieth, Amber, Richard, Brandy, Jeremy, Cassie, Nathan and Brittney. 30 great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: George, Robert and Bill; and one sister, Dorothy.

Per John’s wishes, cremation will take place. The family is planning a memorial service for a later date. Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer has been entrusted with the cremation arrangements.
