E. Lovell Spurgeon, 95, of Rensselaer, IN passed away in Rensselaer on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. She was born on June 25, 1927 to the late Edgar Calvin and Lula (Payne) List.
She was a 1945 graduate of Monon High School and lived most of her life in the Jasper County area. Lovell married Harry W. Spurgeon on January 22, 1950, in Rensselaer.
She worked as deputy Jasper County Clerk and in the Jasper County Treasurer’s office for many years. Prior to working for Jasper County, she worked various part time jobs.
Lovell is a member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church. Throughout the years she was a Sunday School Teacher and enjoyed listening to children recite Bible verses with AWANA.
She enjoyed quilting and embroidering, playing cards, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Lovell especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.
Lovell is survived by: daughter, Kristine (Stan) Bailey; son, Kurtis (Terry) Spurgeon; grandchildren, Maren Spurgeon (Gama), Janel Manwaring, Marta Guy (Nathan), Kandace Taylor (Frank), Lindsey Howell (Scott), and Jordan Bailey (Nikki); 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Patsy Alberts, Calla (Diego) Gonzalez, and Kay (Larry) Smith; and several sisters and brothers in law.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry; parents, Calvin and Lula; son, Michael A. Spurgeon; sisters, Stella Ramey, Wanda Murray, Nellie List; brothers, Dallas List and Henry “Jack” List; several sisters and brothers in law.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Pastor Larry Smith, Pastor Larry Hansen and Pastor Tim Hendrix officiating. Interment at Memory Gardens of Rensselaer. Memorial donations are suggested to Samaritan’s Purse.
