Obituary for Marjorie Carolyn Mitchell (Ralph)

Marjorie Carolyn Mitchell, 74, of Rensselaer, Indiana went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 17, 2020. She was born on April 29, 1946, in Hartford, Kentucky, to Marvin and Mary (Howard) Ralph. On June 22, 1963 she married Charles Edward “Chuck” Mitchell in Black Oak, Indiana.

Marjorie graduated from Calumet High School in Gary, Indiana with the Class of 1964. She went on to attend cosmetology school in Highland, Indiana and became a licensed cosmetologist. She and her husband moved to rural Rensselaer in 1976. She owned and operated The Curle Shoppe beauty salon adjacent to her home for 36 years, until the Mitchells moved to town in 2014.

Marjorie was an active and beloved member of her church, The Bridge Assembly of God in Rensselaer. Over the years, she served as Women’s Ministry Leader, Sunday School Superintendent, and Children’s Church Teacher. She was loved for her singing, sign language, imaginative puppet shows, and 3-ft. long candy bars for every child’s birthday.

She loved singing, dancing, cooking, gardening, and children. Everyone who walked into her home became a member of her family and they never left hungry. Marjorie will be fondly remembered for her joyful demeanor and her infectious smile. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Chuck Mitchell; three children: Kenneth Mitchell, Kathryn Buteau, and Kari Jean (Nick) Sizemore; two brothers, Wayne (Vicki) Ralph and David (Sue) Ralph; two sisters, Rita (Phil) Modglin and Rose (Ed) Nelson; nine grandchildren: Austin Mullins, Quentin Mitchell, Adrianna Mitchell, Kendall Mitchell, Angel Mitchell, Isaac Sayler, Zoeanne Sayler, Lucas Sayler, and Jackson Buteau. Many nieces and nephews, cousins, and life-long friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mary Ralph.
