Obituary for Mary Ruth Iliff (Knott)

Mary Ruth Iliff, 78, of Lake Village, Indiana passed away at her home on Saturday, June 15, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was born in Bridgeport, Alabama on May 31, 1941 to the late John Holt Knott and Mary Ruth (Chance) Knott. She was a 1959 graduate of Bridgeport High School. On December 9, 1965, in Hammond, Indiana, she married her husband of 52 years, Ronald Lee Iliff. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2018.

Mary worked as a bookkeeper for Hoosier State Bank in Hammond until leaving to raise her family. She was an active member of Village Baptist Church in Lake Village where she served as the church secretary and bookkeeper. She enjoyed puzzles, crosswords, and reading. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who devoted herself to her family.

She is survived by three daughters: Ronda Iliff, Veronica (James) Bohlin, and Meredith (Scott) Chancy; one brother, James (Virginia “Trinkie”) Knott; two sisters, Johnnie Eakins and Annette “Toots” Avans; four grandchildren: Vonda (Joshua, Sr.) Myers, Ron (Dani) Edison, David Rivera and Chloe Hoover; two step-grandchildren, Scott Chancy, Jr. and Dakota Chancy; and eight great-grandchildren: Aurora, Trinity, Mackenzie, Milo, Joshua, Jr., Oakleigh, Finnlee, and Judy-Mae.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; baby daughter Mary; grandson Christian Iliff; son-in-law John Collins II; brother Flavel “Biscuit” Knott; and sister Quilla Moore.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral at 12 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco. Pastor Fred Zaugg officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Village Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.SteinkeFuneralHome.com.
