Obituary for Michael Matheny

Michael Matheny, 60, of Morocco, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2013. He was born in Gary on March 15, 1953, the son of Harold Matheny and the late Margaret (Atwood) Matheny. He grew up in Cedar Lake and graduated from Crown Point High School. On Sept. 11, 1998, in Madison, Indiana, he married Debbie Farrington.

Michael was a structural ironworker for International Local #1 in Chicago, Illinois until his retirement in 1998. He was a Mason and attended the Morocco First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed karate and over the years he owned and operated several karate schools. He also enjoyed gaming, especially playing Battlefield, and he loved muscle cars and attending street rod shows.

Michael is survived by his loving family: wife Debbie Matheny of Morocco; four daughters, Shawna, Laura, Heather, and Amy; two sons, Mark and Chad; his father Harold Matheny of Monon; three sisters, Sherryl Box (Joe) of Winamac, LaDonna Decker of Morocco, Deborah Whiting of Lake Village; and one brother, Bobby (Jennifer) Matheny of Liberty, Indiana. Ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Morocco First United Methodist Church with Pastor Wayne Williams officiating.
