Obituary for Norma C. Lawson (Roberts)

Norma C. Lawson, 94, a lifelong resident of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away peacefully at her home on April 24, 2024. She was born in Rensselaer on December 30, 1929, the daughter of Charles Roberts and Catherine Evelyn (Kirk) Roberts. She was a 1949 graduate of Rensselaer High School.

On January 1, 1951, in Rensselaer, she married the love of her life, Billie J. Lawson. They were married for 58 wonderful years. Billie preceded her in death on September 30, 2009. Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Cathy Jo Schweiss; granddaughter Kristy Scarberry; great-great grandson Levi Hitchings; her parents, Charles and Catherine Evelyn Roberts; and brother Charlie Roberts.

She is survived by two children: Mary Hitchings (Melvin) of Rensselaer and Charles Lawson (Rhonda) of Veedersburg, Indiana; son-in-law Arnie Schweiss of Toledo, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Mike Hitchings (Lisa) of Rensselaer, Jeffery Hitchings of Rensselaer, Brandy Jo Warran (Tim) of Plainfield, Indiana, Terra Martel (Matt) of Ohio, Zayne Lawson of Veedersburg, Cory Lock (Lacinda) of Crawfordsville, and Jeremy (Angela) Lock of Indiana. Also surviving are brother-in-law Skip Lawson (Sandy) of Covington, Indiana and sister-in-law Dorothy Jovanovich of Clinton, Indiana.

Norma was a homemaker. Later in life, she worked in the cafeteria at Rensselaer Central Middle School for about 20 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking. When she was younger she enjoyed fishing with her husband. Norma cherished her family. She always greeted them with a hug and a kiss. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 1 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Rev. Susan Martin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Franciscan Hospice Care.
