Obituary for Ronald Lee "Ron" Iliff

Ronald Lee Iliff, 80, of Lake Village, passed away at his home on Wednesday evening, September 12, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born in Roselawn on June 7, 1938, the son of Everett A. Iliff and Sarah Elizabeth (Green) Iliff. Ron served in the U.S. Air Force, then married Mary Ruth Knott on December 9, 1965. He served during the Vietnam War, while in the Navy. He reinlisted years later as Navy Reserve and retired from the U.S. Navy in 1996.

Ron was a union welder at Inland Steel, in East Chicago, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Lake Village American Legion Post #375 and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a member of Village Baptist Church and drove the church bus for many years. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, tinkering around in the garage, and telling stories.

Ron is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Iliff; three daughters: Ronda Iliff, Veronica Bohlin (husband James), and Meredith Chancy (husband Scott, Sr.); three brothers: Everett “Bud” Iliff (wife Jean), Larry Iliff (wife Mickey), and Terry Iliff; one sister, Shirley Hess; four grandchildren: Vonda Myers (husband Josh), Ron Edison (wife Dani), David Rivera, and Chloe Hoover; two step-grandchildren, Scott Chancy, Jr. and Dakota Chancy; and six great-grandchildren with two on the way.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; infant daughter Mary Iliff; grandson Christian Iliff; and son-in-law John Collins.

Visitation will be Monday, September 17, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Fred Zaugg officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Lake Village Cemetery.
