Obituary for Roosevelt "Rose" McCarty

Roosevelt “Rose” McCarty, 78, of Rensselaer, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 27, 2013 at his home. He was born in Salyersville, KY February 7, 1935, the son of Clyde McCarty and Ritta (Carty) McCarty. He had been a resident of Jasper County since 1949. On Jan. 10, 1956 he married his wife of 52 years, Ruby Mae (Wireman) McCarty. She preceded him in death May 2, 2008.

Rose worked for Monon Vulcan Materials as a pay loader operator for 30 years, retiring in 1999. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed watching Western movies and WWE wrestling, listening to Bluegrass music and mowing his lawn.

Rose is survived by his loving family: two daughters, Tonya (Curtis) Briggs of Rensselaer and Cindy (Mark) Lynch of LaPorte; five grandchildren: Brandon Messer, Eric Messer, Amanda Snow, Johnathon Snow and Jason Briggs; one brother, John David “J.D.” (Shirley) McCarty of Michigan City; and one sister, Junita Ross of Georgia. He was preceded in death by: his parents, his wife, one brother and one sister.

Friends may call Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 from 3-7 p.m. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. (CST) with Pastor James Rowe officiating. Interment will follow at Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the organization of the donor’s choice. Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer is handling the arrangements.
