Obituary for Stephen D. "Steve" Snell

Stephen D. “Steve” Snell, 66, a lifelong resident of Morocco, Indiana passed away Monday afternoon, June 7, 2021 at Franciscan Health Crown Point after a brief illness. He was born on June 5, 1955, in Brazil, Indiana, the son of Sarah E. (Dawson) Snell and the late Jack N. Snell. He was a 1973 graduate of North Newton High School.

After high school, Steve served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Lubbock, Texas. He served from 1973-1975 as an aircraft maintenance specialist, working on T-38 aircraft. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in education from Purdue University, and his master’s degree in industrial technology from Indiana State University.

Steve worked as a graphic artist, an industrial technology teacher for North Newton High School, and then as a field technician and surveyor for the Newton County Surveyor’s Office. He was a member of the Morocco First United Methodist Church; a former member of American Legion Post #146, where he served as Vice-Commander and Commander; and a former member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, and model railroads.

Steve is survived by his mother, Sarah Snell of Morocco; one brother, William Snell of Morocco; one sister, Cecilia (Larry) Henning of Flora; and two nieces, Denise Yentes of Rensselaer and Michelle (Frankie) Patterson of Fair Play, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Snell.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 13, 2021 from 3-7 p.m. at the Morocco First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Monday, June 14, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Morocco First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
