Obituary for Thelma Jean Martin (Huff)

Thelma Jean  Martin (Huff)
Thelma Jean Martin, 83, of rural Rensselaer, passed away at her home on Sunday morning, September 6, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born in Salyersville, Kentucky on October 1, 1931, the daughter of the late James and Junie (McCarty) Huff. She spent her childhood in Kentucky and moved to Jasper County in the early 1940’s. She attended the Salyersville and Kniman public schools. On November 20, 1946, in Rensselaer, she married Mannie Martin.

Thelma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was always busy and her hands were never still. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She also enjoyed going out to dinner, attending festivals, flea markets and garage sales, and visiting relatives in Kentucky. She especially loved spending time with her family and her precious grandchildren.

Thelma is survived by: her husband, Mannie Martin; six children: Walter Martin, Belinda Sue Burns, Helen (Jerry) Luttrell, Molly (Roger) Chambliss, James Leon Martin and Loretta Dilliard; one brother, Charles Huff; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, one son, Mannie, Jr.; two sisters; four brothers; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Friends may call on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Don Gear officiating. Interment will follow at Wheatfield Cemetery.
