Obituary for Wanda Jean Hefner (Manley)

Wanda Jean Hefner, 59, of Rensselaer, formerly of Alabama, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 at Franciscan Health Rensselaer. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 31, 1959 to Etta Jean (Williams) Manley. She was a graduate of Portage High School.

Wanda was a CNA at the Indiana Veterans’ Home in West Lafayette. She was very dedicated to her job and was passionate about the care of veterans.

She enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo, and being outdoors. She was awesome at crocheting. She crocheted beautiful blankets and Christmas ornaments. A proud mama and grandma, Wanda loved spending time with her grandbabies.

Wanda is survived by her three sons: Christopher (wife: Renda) Lawson of Flora, Jessy Hefner of Lafayette, and Billy Hefner (significant other: Taylor Cox) of Lafayette; nine grandchildren: Jeffrey, Lawrence, Alexis, Gabriel, Benjamin, Ana, Aarianna, Addalynn, and Gatlyn; and one great-granddaughter, Evelyn Elizabeth. Also surviving are her sister, Melissa Taylor of Rensselaer; half-brother James Bodie Manley (wife: Chrysti); two step-brothers, James and Leslie; three step-sisters: Margaret, Rose, and Linda.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister Elizabeth Ann Agee; half-sister Sheila; and her son, Anthony Kendrick.

Per Wanda’s wishes, cremation will take place with burial to follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Bremen, Alabama. Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer is handling the arrangements. Share memories and condolences at www.SteinkeFuneralHome.com.
