Obituary for Warren "Bud" Johnson

Warren “Bud” Johnson, 95 of Morocco, Indiana, passed away at his home, August 19, 2022. Bud was born February 2, 1927, to Arno and Ruth (Carlson) Johnson in rural Donovan, Illinois. After the death of his father, his mother moved the family to Morocco, where he graduated from high school, with the class of 1944. He was a United States Army veteran of WW II, following his discharge, he returned home to pursue a career in farming.
Warren enjoyed attending Purdue Basketball games, drinking coffee with fellow farmers at the Pullman Café, bowling and playing Euchre.
He loved to travel; a highlight of his travels was a trip to Sweden where he located his ancestral homestead.
In his lifetime, he was married to Dorothy Triplett Hayes and Karen Martin Warne. For the last twenty years of his life, he spent an enjoyable and rewarding time with his companion, Judy Brown.
Warren was a lifetime member of the Morocco First United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful choir member. He enjoyed singing in the Christmas Cantatas and was also well known for singing solos at several weddings & funerals along with singing the National Anthem at many events.
He was a member of the Morocco American Legion, Post #146, and for many years, participated with other veterans, in the Honor Guard ceremonies at burials and Memorial Day services. He was also a member of the Morocco Masonic Lodge and the Forty and Eight.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, siblings Bob Johnson & Shirley Johnson Forberg, his first and second wives, plus many close Carlson cousins.
He is survived by one son, Warren “JR” (Marcia) Johnson; grandchildren Brian (Richelle) Johnson and Kari Johnson. He is also survived by one, very special, great grand-daughter, Amelia Grace Johnson and a great-grand pup, Wrenley, who he called Rover.
Other survivors include step-children Ted (Marcia) Hayes, Kathleen Hershman, Mike (Sue) Warne, Susan (Paul) Olson, Kim Nevitt, and Mark (Missy) Warne and step-grandchildren, Shannon (Scott) Evans, David (Dawn) Gerts, Ryan Hayes, Katelyn, Rob, & Eric Warne, Riley & Wes Cook, Ben & Devon Olson and Bethany, Hayley, & Peyton Warne. Step-great grandchildren include Robbie (Andria) Whicker & Payton Evans, Kaia, Sophie, & Jack Gerts, and RJ Hayes along with one step-great-great granddaughter, Karalee Whicker. Bud once said “for only having one son, I sure do have a big family!”
Memorial contributions may be made to Morocco First United Methodist Church or the American Legion, Post #146.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral at 12 p.m. (Central Time) at the Morocco First United Methodist Church. Pastor Susan Martin officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow at Beaver Cemetery. Steinke Funeral Home is honored to be handling the arrangements.
