Alice B. Korniak

Alice B. Korniak, 68, of Rensselaer, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Franciscan Health Rensselaer. She was born in Rensselaer on September 19, 1947, the daughter of the late Earl William and Loeva Marie (Halstead) Miller. She was a lifelong Rensselaer resident.

Alice graduated from Rensselaer Central High School in 1965, and went on to attend International Business College in Fort Wayne, where she earned her associate’s degree in accounting. She married John E. Korniak in Rensselaer on April 2, 1967.

Alice worked as a banker for the First Federal Loan Company in Rensselaer, and went on to serve as the manager of Indiana Federal Savings and Loan for a number of years. Alice and John had two sons, Ed and Kent, and she left the bank to raise her family. She returned to banking, working as a teller for the State Bank of Rensselaer until her retirement.

Alice was a lifelong member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer. She was an avid golfer, and she enjoyed playing bridge. She was a big fan of Purdue sports, especially football and the women’s basketball team. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and she loved spending time with her family.

Alice is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, John E. Korniak; two sons, Ed Korniak (wife: Lisa) and Kent Korniak (wife: Beth); six grandchildren: Leealison, Benjamin, Maxwell, Audrey, Hadley and Gus; and one sister, Dorothy Jane Rishling. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Earl William Miller, Jr.

Friends may call on Monday, February 22, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer, the American Cancer Society, or the organization of the donor’s choice.
