Alonzo L. “Lon” Skinner, age 82 of Kentland, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Rensselaer Care Center. He was born in Morocco on March 2, 1930, son of the late Alonzo M. Skinner and Pauline (Law) Skinner.
Lon graduated from Morocco High School with the class of 1948. On July 23, 1949 in Crown Point, he married his wife of over 62 years, Bonnie D. (Brown) Skinner, and she survives. Lon attended Indiana State University and graduated with his undergraduate degree in 1952. He earned his masters degree in education from Purdue University in 1956. Lon was a school teacher and lived in Peru, Indiana for 24 years until his retirement in 1989. He returned to Newton County in 1990.
Lon is survived by: his wife Bonnie D. Skinner; two sons: Alonzo Law Skinner, Jr. (wife: Bev) of Martinsville, IN and Jon Eric Skinner (wife: Janice) of Earl Park, IN; a daughter, Paula E. Powell (husband: Ronald) of Fort Wayne, IN, and a sister, Joan Graham (husband: Bob) of California. Four grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by: his parents and one sister.
