Barbara Swallow

Barbara J. Swallow, age 82 of Rensselaer, passed away early Friday morning, January 11, 2013, at Jasper County Hospital. She was born in Pekin, IL on June 28, 1930, a daughter of the late Fred F. and Ruby Jean (Padgett) Wegner. Barbara had resided in Rensselaer for the past 50 years. In 1949 she married Herbert Lee Sheely, who preceded her in death. In 1967 she married Fred Swallow. He died in 1988. Barbara was a homemaker and attended the Rensselaer Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed crafts and loved to do word find puzzles. Barbara was very devoted to God and her family.

Surviving are children, Fred (Liz) Sheely of Michigan City, Bonny Walker and John Swallow of Rensselaer; one sister, Joyce Poxon of Oceanside, CA, brother, Phillip Wegner of AR, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a sister, Violet and two brothers, Russell and James.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at noon with Pastor Melvin Lane officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Brook.
