Beverly Constance Purdy

Beverly Constance (Shields) Purdy, 92, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021. She was born October 8, 1929, to Harley G. and Hazel J. (Constant) Shields in Muncie, Indiana.

After graduating from the Perry Township school system of Wayne County, Indiana, Beverly attended Marion County General Hospital Nursing School, where she obtained her Registered Nursing credentials. She worked at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis as an OB/GYN nurse and at Western Electric Company as a RN in the Hospital Department.

Beverly married Ralph Eldon Purdy of Morocco Indiana on September 1, 1951, in Economy, Indiana. Together they raised four children. After raising her children, she returned to nursing working at Barton House, and then again with Western Electric as a RN – Occupational Nurse. After retiring, she enjoyed visiting with her family and reading and coloring.

She is survived by her children: Ellen (Dale) Eisman, Edward (Margo) Purdy, Donna Elaine Purdy and Jason (April) Purdy; one sister, Donna M. (Shields) Baer; six grandchildren: Mariah Eisman, Thomas (Julia) Eisman, Miranda (Eric) Dobson, William Purdy, and twins Cathryn and Kyle Purdy; and two great-grandchildren: Aria Eisman and Ralph “Castor” Eisman.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, parents Harley and Hazel Shields, and brother William "Billy" Shields.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. (Central Time) at Steinke Funeral Home in Morocco, Indiana. Graveside services will follow at Oakland Cemetery with Ron Robinson officiating. Contributions in Beverly’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association or the Susan G.
