Billie Sue (Peevey) Bingham passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida. She lived 29 years in Ellenton, Florida, and was formerly from Morocco, Indiana. She is reunited with her beloved husband, Raymond, with whom she shared a happy marriage for 61 years. Billie was born on October 25, 1928, in Colt, Arkansas, to Harold Emmet and Neva Kilgore Peevey.
Billie was a devoted mother to Douglas (Sherry), of Fishers, Indiana; and Carol (Roger Chapman), of Ellenton, Florida, formerly from Rensselaer, Indiana. She was a proud grandmother of four, Stacy (Luke) Smith, John (Veronica) Bingham, Jeffrey (Lovenel) Kessler, and Ryan Kessler. She had nine great grandchildren, Jenna and Nathaniel Bingham, Katherine and Emma Smith, Adam and Raymond Kessler, and Gavin Kessler, Nevaeh and Carter Ogborn.
Billie returned to school at age 31, earned her high school diploma, and went on to graduate magna cum laude with a degree in elementary education from Saint Joseph’s College. She later attended summer classes at Indiana State University to obtain her master’s degree. She taught in the Enos, Morocco, and North Newton Schools for 22 years.
A natural leader, Billie served as township trustee and on the Newton County Board of Health during her years in Enos. After moving to Florida, she was soon elected to serve six years on the Tidevue Estates Board of Directors and three years as the first female president of the board. She was a dedicated volunteer and also enjoyed participating in the many activities, clubs and events in her years at Tidevue. She enjoyed many past times including word and number puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and reading. Her true delight was playing cards with bridge being her favorite.
Her grandchildren will cherish a lifetime of wonderful memories—playing games after dinner, making applesauce, and enjoying her refrigerator pickles, pimento cheese, and the best sausage gravy and biscuits. They remember shucking sweet corn by the truckload, gathering in her small kitchen that somehow fit everyone, and working side by side canning and preparing food from the garden. There was always a sweet treat after dinner, often her favorite homemade chocolate meringue pie. They all enjoyed time spent together on the front porch swing, just talking or snapping fresh green beans. Most of all, they will remember how special she made them feel. Through her warm smile and cheerful spirit, she had a gift for making everyone feel loved—she truly gave from the heart.
Billie had an unwavering faith, a kind and generous heart, and deep love for her family, friends and community. She touched many lives and leaves a legacy of love, devotion, and compassion for others. If you have an image of Billie in your mind, you’re likely remembering her twinkling eyes and sparkling smile. We are all so blessed to have had her in our lives and to have the wonderful memories that will live on in our minds and hearts!
