Dale Irwin Dawson, age 81 of rural Morocco, passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2011 at his winter home in Foley, Alabama. Dale was born in Ade, Indiana on March 1, 1930 to the late Lawrence (Pappy) and Verda (Hickman) Dawson. He graduated from Morocco High School in 1948. On January 27, 1951 in Morocco, Dale married Carol Lee Bohler. She survives. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this past January.
Dale served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, based at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Rucker, Alabama.
He was a member of the United Church of Morocco, serving as a Bishop for several years. He was a member of Morocco Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, Low Twelve Club, and a Director on the Newton County Soil and Water Board for 40 years. Dale was a life long farmer and worked in the fertilizer and ag-chem field for over 50 years, the last 33 years as Vice-President of Dawson Farm Center, Inc., south of Morocco. He enjoyed camping and traveling.
Surviving along with his wife Carol are three sons, Jake Dawson (wife: Brenda), Bob Dawson, (fiancé: Valerie) and Tom Dawson (wife: Eileen), all of Morocco; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Dean Dawson (wife: Barb); and two sisters, Darlene and Della Lou.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Daryl.
Friends may call on Friday, April 1, 2011 from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. at the Morocco Community Center, 409 S. Polk St. Funeral services will be at the Community Center on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 10 A.M., Mr. Jack Snell officiating. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the United Church of Morocco.
