David Marcel VanThournout, 83, of Rensselaer, Indiana, passed away at his home on November 3, 2026. He was born on November 24, 1942, in St. Charles, Illinois, and lived a life marked by hard work, care for others, and steady dedication.
David was a graduate of St. Charles High School. He went on to work as a truck driver, a career that reflected the dependable and hard-working nature for which he was known. Those who knew him will remember a man who was caring and dedicated in the way he lived and in the relationships he kept throughout his life.
Outside of work, David found enjoyment in the things he loved most. He loved playing softball and was an avid White Sox fan, taking pleasure in the game both on the field and as a loyal supporter from the stands and at home. He also attended St. Patrick Catholic Church in St. Charles, Illinois, which remained a meaningful part of his life.
David is survived by his loving partner of many years, Marilyn Neal of Rensselaer, Indiana; his two sons, Mark VanThournout of Chicago, Illinois and Jason VanThournout of Rensselaer, Indiana; his former wife, Carol Moxley (Jim) Carlson of Friendship, Wisconsin; and by his loyal companion, his dog Buddy. Many cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive, carrying on the family farm in Janesville, Wisconsin. The family he leaves behind carries forward the memory of a man whose presence was steady and whose life touched those closest to him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert VanThournout; his mother, Martha (DePorter) VanThournout; his brothers, Gerald and Albert; and his sisters, Joann, Diane, and Roseann.
David Marcel VanThournout will be remembered with love for his hardworking spirit, his caring heart, and the simple joys that meant so much to him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
The family is planning a celebration of David’s life at a later date.
