Dixie Floyd Ulm

Dixie Floyd Ulm, 78, of Morocco, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital in Lafayette. He was born in Brook on October 3, 1938, son of the late Floyd Edward Ulm and Alice (Triplett) Ulm. He graduated from Morocco High School with the Class of 1957 and was a lifelong area resident.


On September 30, 1977, in Lake Village, he married Gail Lynn McFarland. They were married for 39 years. Dixie worked for Merlin Karlock of Kankakee, Illinois for many years. He farmed and was a purchasing agent and driver for Mr. Karlock. He also helped with the development of a golf course in Bourbonnais, Illinois.


When he was younger, Dixie enjoyed driving fast and racing cars down area highways. He was especially proud of his pink Cadillac.


He was very knowledgeable about electronics and could build his own computers. He was a CB and ham radio enthusiast and was a member of REACT, helping stranded motorists. He enjoyed communicating with people all over the world on his ham radio.


He was a member of Saint Augusta Catholic Church in Lake Village. He read his Bible every day. His faith in the Lord, and his family were what was most important to him.


Dixie is survived by his loving wife, Gail Lynn Ulm; son Timothy P. Ulm; two adopted sons: Louis J. Ulm and David D. Ulm; four grandchildren: Kristina D. Ulm, David Ulm, Jr., Patty J. Ulm, and Dakota James Beirman-Ulm; one niece, Taffy (husband: Brandon) Homyak; and two great-nieces, Ashleah Nicole Jones and Caitlin Melissa Jones.


He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Edward Allen Ulm and James Brian Ulm; and one sister, JoAlice Ulm.


A gathering to celebrate Dixie’s life will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 from 2-5 p.m. (CDT) at the Morocco American Legion Post #146, 402 N. Walker St., Morocco, Indiana 47963.
