Donald “Butch” Spurgeon, 66, of Morocco, passed away Monday morning, December 17, 2012, at Jasper County Hospital. Butch was born in Rensselaer on October 16, 1946, son of the late Carl M. and Harriet (Goddard) Spurgeon. He was a lifelong area resident.
Butch graduated from North Newton High School and went on to serve his Country in the U.S. Army. He served as a truck driver in Vietnam, and was later stationed in Germany. For his service, Butch was awarded the Army National Defense Service Metal. He was a member of Morocco American Legion Post #146.
Butch is survived by one brother, Carl (Lauren) Spurgeon of Olympia, WA; three sisters, Darlene (David) Truby of Kentland, Sharon Kay (Frank) McLean of Morocco, and Debra (Mitchell) Williamson of Mt. Ayr; and friend Daniel Kunz. Ten nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Jeff Spurgeon.
Friends may call on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco, with Rev. Royal Voeller officiating. Interment will follow at Russell Chapel Cemetery in Washington Township. Memorials are suggested to the family.
