Doris Brandenburg

October 8, 1916 — June 26, 2011

Doris J. Brandenburg, age 94 of Rensselaer, passed away early Sunday morning, June 26, 2011 at the Rensselaer Care Center. She was born in Rensselaer on Oct. 8, 1916, daughter of John Putts and Chloe (Wasson) Putts.


Doris grew up in Rensselaer and graduated from Rensselaer High School with the class of 1934. On Aug. 18, 1937, in Lafayette, she married her husband of over 51 years, Roy Brandenburg. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1989.


Doris lived for a time in Madison, IN, returning to Rensselaer in 1954. She was the secretary at the Rensselaer High School from 1959 through 1981. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Ladies Literary Club, the Rensselaer Garden Club, and Tri Kappa, where she had served as President. She enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, gardening, and playing Bridge.


Doris is survived by her son, Stephen “Steve” Brandenburg (wife: Sandra) of Rensselaer; four grandchildren, Debra Kempker (husband: Ed) of Granite Bay, CA, Marianne Hall (husband: Mike) of Avon, IN, Jeffery Brandenburg (wife: Steffany) of Indianapolis, Daniel Brandenburg (wife: Kelly) of Encinitas, CA; and three great-grandchildren. A sister, Patricia Giersch of Washington, IL also survives.


She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two sisters.


Friends may call on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at 12:30 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Rev. Eric Brotheridge officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Rensselaer. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Rensselaer.
