Elbert T. “Spike” Luttrell, age 82 of Goodland, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer. He was born in Liberty, KY on May 12, 1929, son of the late Evertt and Lula Luttrell.
Spike grew up in Kentucky and attended school in Casey County. He had been a resident of northwest Indiana for the past 60 years. On August 20, 1951, he married Winifred “Faye” (Smith) Luttrell and she survives.
Spike was a farmer and had also worked for Morris Holley construction building bridges and for Kavinder’s doing mowing. He attended the First Apostolic Church in Sheldon, IL. Spike loved the Lord and loved attending church. He loved being outdoors, gardening, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and watching professional wrestling. He was talented musically, and liked to play the guitar while singing with his brothers.
Surviving with his wife Faye are three sons, Robert “Bob” Luttrell (wife: Theresa) of Remington, Tom Luttrell (wife: Cindy) of Fair Oaks, and Jerry Luttrell of Brook; seven daughters, Betty Glenn (partner: Rodney Schultz) of Sheldon, IL, Alice Crosby of Dunnville, KY, Donnie Wendel of Watseka, IL, Jo Peeken (husband: John) of Wolcott, Cuba “Cubie” Williamson (partner: Rob Anderson), Margaret Anton (husband: David), Judy Cox (husband: Ronald), all of Remington. Also surviving are three brothers, Henry “Hank” Luttrell and Rayleonard Luttrell of Mt. Ayr, and Curtis Luttrell (wife: Peggy) of Russell Springs, KY. Thirty grandchildren and fifty great-grandchildren also survive.
Spiket was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Albert; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters and one brother.
Friends may call Friday, May 27, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 noon (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Pastor Ronald Childress officiating. Interment will follow at DeMotte Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family.
