Eva Kathryn Hammond

Eva Kathryn Hammond, 84, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away at her home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born in Rensselaer on March 18, 1939, the daughter of Otha Spriggs and Lucy M. (Walker) Spriggs. She was a 1957 graduate of Rensselaer High School. On July 20, 1959 she married her husband of 52 years, Ray Dean Hammond. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2011.

Eva worked at Conagra Foods until her retirement. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and TOPS. She loved gardening and reading books.

She is survived by her two children, Kassandra Hammond and Jeff Hammond (significant other: Kelli Wang), and step-son Steve Hammond, all of Rensselaer; three grandchildren: Allison Marie (Hammond) Wireman of Remington, Morgan Rae Hammond and Kenzi Kathryn Hammond, both of Rensselaer; great-grandson, and grandma’s best friend, Nathaniel Ray Troop of Remington; one sister, Anne Pluth of Wyoming; and one sister-in-law, Mert Spriggs of Wheatfield. Also surviving is Eva’s loving dog Miss Bee, who never left her side.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ray; her parents; five sisters: Evelyn (Spriggs) Brown, Iris (Spriggs) Jones, Loretta (Spriggs) Bruce, Louise (Spriggs) Battleday and Charlotte Spriggs; and three brothers: Richard Spriggs, Alan Spriggs and Albert Spriggs.

The family is planning a celebration of Eva’s life for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
