Gerald Anderson

Gerald W. “Andy” Anderson, age 76 of Morocco, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 31, 2011 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette. Andy was born in Newland in Jasper County on July 1, 1934, son of the late Ernest and Naomi (Nelson) Anderson.

He was a lifetime Morocco resident and graduated from Morocco High School in 1952. On November 26, 1954 in Ade, Indiana he married Geraldine “Gerry” Tichacek to whom he was married for 56 years. She survives. Andy worked for Local Union #41 in construction and for the last 18 years of his career he was Custodian for Morocco Elementary School, retiring in 2001. Andy was a 50 year member of the Morocco Fire Department serving as Fire Chief the last 3 years and was a 50 year member of the Indiana Volunteer Fire Association. He was affiliated with the United Church of Morocco. His hobby was camping.

Surviving along with his wife are children Fred (wife, Donna) Anderson of Lake Village, IN, Ron (wife, Diane) Anderson of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Brenda (Mrs. Willie) Coffer of Indianapolis. There are 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren who survive. One sister also survives, Rita Agent of Brook, IN.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gaylord, 2 sisters, Dorothy Smart and Mary Anderson, and a niece, Crystal Anderson.

Visitation is Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 3 – 7 P.M. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home Brunton Chapel of Morocco. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. (CST) on Monday, April 4, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Greg Waggoner officiating. Interment to follow at Oakland Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to the Morocco Fire Department or the National Down Syndrome Society.
