Helen C. Daniels

Helen C. Daniels, 97, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the Rensselaer Care Center. She was born in Michigan City, Indiana on April 6, 1925 to Vernon Loetz and Catherine (Markel) Loetz.

On May 9, 1942, in Michigan City, she married Clarence L. Daniels. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1981.

Helen was a homemaker and had worked at the former Schumacher Electric Company in Rensselaer. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post #1279 of Rensselaer; VFW Auxiliary Post #717 of Dyer; VFW of St. John; American Legion Post #29 of Rensselaer; and the American Legion Auxiliary Post of Dyer. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church of Rensselaer.

Helen was a huge Elvis fan. She enjoyed playing bingo, doing word searches and puzzles, and coloring. She adored her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by four children: Karen Galbreath of Remington, John Daniels of Rensselaer, Walter Daniels of Dyer, and Roger (wife: Mary “Mickie”) Daniels of Mt. Zion, Illinois; daughter-in-law Theresa Jo Daniels of Rensselaer; one sister, Rosalee Stingley of Tennessee; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence Daniels; daughter Margaret James; son George Daniels; infant son Dale Daniels; son-in-law Rex James; daughter-in-law Linda Daniels; seven sisters; and two brothers.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral at 12 p.m. CDT at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Father Joshua Bennett officiating. Interment will be Friday, March 31, 2023 at 1 p.m. CDT at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 S. Cline Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rensselaer Care Center or Jasper County Community Services.
