Hershel Messer

Hershel Messer, age 79 of Monticello formerly of Jasper County passed away November 11, 2008 at White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born in Knott County, Kentucky on November 5, 1929, a son of the late General Kelly and Bertha (Shepherd) Messer. He had lived in Jasper County since 1946. He married Myrna (McKay) Messer in Jasper County. She preceded him in death. He was employed in farming and construction work, retiring in the early 1980's. He attended church at the First Love Church in Medaryville. Surviving are 2 sons, Ronnie and Larry and 2 daughters Cheryl and Marcia all of South Bend, IN. A sister, Mary Lane of Kentucky survives along with brothers, Rudolph Messer of North Judson, J.C. (Norma) Messer of Rensselaer, Grover (Julie) Messer of Wheatfield, and Paul and Hulie Messer, both of Medaryville, Several nieces and nephew also survive. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, son, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Friends may call Friday, November 14th from 3 till 7 (Rensselaer time) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services are at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church. Interment follows at Richie Cemetery.
