J Edward Levandowski , 94, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away peacefully surrounded by family and dear friends on November 16, 2024. He was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on November 16, 1930, the son of Herbert Levandowski, and Edna (Yeoman) Levandowski. J was the second of four children and was a lifelong area resident. He attended South Newton Grade School, Rensselaer Middle School, and graduated from Rensselaer Central High School in 1948.
During his school years J worked at Overton’s Meat Packing, Bridges Bakery, and was a Newspaper Route Carrier. After graduation from Rensselaer High school J became a small aircraft pilot and helped deliver airplanes.
He also owned Arrow Cleaners, where he met Mary Jane Hall, whom he married in 1961. They later welcomed their daughter Alisa.
In 1968 J became the Superintendent at Weston Cemetery. He took great pride for many years in maintaining it for the community until his retirement in 1995.
J loved family vacations with his wife Mary Jane and daughter Alisa, along with many Canadian fishing trips with friends and family. He always looked forward to spending time with his grandson Hogan.
He was a member of Rensselaer Nazarene Church, Prairie #125 F&AM Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, and in his younger years was a member of Boy Scout Troop #52.
J enjoyed looking after the family farm, along with being a regular at the Rensselaer Senior Center. He was member of The Jasper County Historical Society, and an avid Auto Racing fan. He will be remembered as a dedicated and loving husband, brother, dad, grandpa, and friend. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand.
J is survived by his daughter Alisa (John) Lacy, grandson Hogan Lacy and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane of 46 years, parents, and three sisters and their husbands: Rita (Jim) Hancock, Jean (Wally) Rentz and Arlene (Norbert) Henrichs.
Friends may visit with the family Tuesday November 26 from 10 AM till 12:15 PM (CST) at the Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A Masonic service will start at 12:15 PM with the Funeral service to follow at 12:30 PM with Pastor Lisa Ulrich officiating. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be made to the Rensselaer Church of the Nazarene, or a charity of the donor’s preference.
